A lot of people give Valentine’s a lot of grief. Seeing it as the unholy offspring of corporate America, whose sole purpose is to sell chocolate and cards. While, yes, admittedly, it is that, but more importantly, it’s what you make of it. Love is amazing, and we don’t need one day set aside to show someone …
Today is Todd Menzies’ 30th birthday… and he’s just getting started. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist, and owner-operator of Menzies Music Production, Mr. Menzies has a hard time keeping still… he’s kind of like the Nick Fury of Golden, British Columbia’s music scene. If it’s music, rest assured, Todd Menzies has his hand in it.
When he’s not booking bands such as, Mobina Galore, Willhorse, and Chris Altmann, you can find him playing bass for Stellar Radio Choir and more recently Willhorse. Somehow, Todd has also found time to release his own album, Cold Coffee EP.
So what does the rest of the year have instore for Golden’s native son? Well, there’s the winter tour to help promote Stellar Radio Choir’s newly released singles, but first, how about reuniting Whistler’s porn-funk band Slow Nerve Actionfor his birthday party at Golden BC’s Rockwater? Yea, Todd Menzies knows how to celebrate. Happy Birthday Buddy!
Oh they are a tenacious little monkeys. Every year for the past 5 years, Toronto’s Fucked Up have been releasing sprawling epics to coincide with the Chinese Calender. This year is Year of the Tiger. It’s fantastic… well as fantastic as Fucked Up can be… which is VERY! (please don’t break up, please don’t break up, please don’t break up)
Stellar Radio Choir is about to kick off a little winter western tour, and nothing gets the people going more than NEW music! I love Ohbijou. There I said it. Wow, does that feel good to get off my chest. But it’s not like it should be a secret locked away in some moth-ridden wardrobe. Ohbijou, comprised of Casey Mecija, her sister Jenny Mecija, James Bunton, Ryan Carley, Anissa Hart and Heather Kirby make beautiful music. Barefaced love songs layered with orchestral flourishes and vivacious harmonies make the band easy to love. It’s perfect for that winter day when your own heart is at it’s fullest and you’re warming your hands on that perfect cup of coffee. You can get their new album, Meet Metals, HERE! Also be sure to check-out their new Green Couch Session(who have been slaying it this month) for their new single, Anser, below!
